1. Treating the business like a hobby.
Many people start their home business with the wrong mind set. They think they can do it in their spare time. Well if you are one of those people, I have news for you... you have no spare time!... and so you will do your business whenever you get the chance and this will eventually lead to failure. You can work your business part time, 2 - 3 hours a day at a set time, but never in your spare time.
2. High expectation with low activity
You buy into the hype of the person who sponsored you into the business with promises of $30k or $50k per month and while this may be true, you don't achieve that by little or no activity. So after a few weeks when you see no result you simply give up to failure. The only way to get massive results is to take massive action.
3. Not Setting Goals.
You simply cannot achieve success in this business without proper written goals. You have to be very clear about your goals and the time frame in which you want to achieve them. Have daily goals, monthly goals and yearly goals.
4. Lack of a daily method of operation. (DMO)
Without a defined DMO, you will get lost in the day. It will be difficult to systemize your work load and so you become prone to a host of distractions and thus, you will find yourself at the end of the day with little or no work done.
5. Loss of Enthusiasm
When first introduced to the business opportunity, you are full of enthusiasm, your energy is amazing and you are pumped with adrenalin. You will succeed in this business no matter what. You fill your mind with the vision of your accomplishments, new car, new house, vacations with the family, but after a few weeks you begin to loose your enthusiasm . It is important to get back and maintain this enthusiasm because this is the driving force behind your actions, so to get this back, always visualize your end results, constantly keep your "why" in your mind. Focus on the new car or new house or whatever your why is.
6. No Business Plan
You need to have a business plan. This is important in building your business and it will serve as a foundation for the sustainable growth of your business. You have to know the expenses that will be incurred in your business and what these expenses will be e.g. your marketing costs, your operational cost which includes your monthly website hosting cost, your telephone cost etc.
7 Your Marketing Cost
This will be the most expensive element of running your home based business. It is imperative that you know exactly what you marketing budget is and make sure that it is sustainable for at least three months.
