1. Online or offline. You can work at the comforts of your own home by either building a brick and mortar type of business or you can make money online. Both have pros and cons. Weigh these and decide which one compliments your skills, abilities, and your experiences. For example, if you are not that familiar as to how the internet works, online business might not be a good idea for you.
2. Type of business. There are so many home based businesses that you can consider these days. You can sink your teeth into buy and sell, offer graphic design or consulting services, sell delicacies, etc. You'll increase your chances of succeeding in this endeavor if you choose something that you find truly interesting. You would want to wake up each morning excited to report to work, right?
3. Discipline. You need a truck load of discipline when running a home based business. Keep in mind that although you are at home, you are still working. Set your working hours and stick to it. That means, no watching your TV or playing with your kids during your working hours. It would also help to explain to all the people in your household the nature of your business so they will not disturb you while you're working.
4. Clients. Just like in any type of business, you would want to build a loyal customer base to boost your sales and revenue. This can only happen if you strive to give each of these people great value for their money. Offer them with top-notch products and amazing customer service. You must also show them that you value their opinions and that you appreciate the business that they are giving you.
