Most people dream of starting a Home Based Business to get away from the drudgery and monotonous 9 to 5 jobs. They are sick and tired of working for a Boss, commuting long distances to their work place and their inability to spend more time with their family. Above all their small pay packet never seems to be enough. Starting a home based business could be just the panacea for their problems. It is not just running a business based at home but achieving success is what matters most.

Working at home in your business is not a difficult proposition but it is important that you remain focused on your business and not be distracted by other activities that are taking place or bound to take place around you.

1. The first thing that should be uppermost in your mind is that this is your business. You are the Boss. Your success will depend on how much time and effort you are prepared to put in. The more effort you put in the more successful you will be and the more income you will generate. So you have to start the day by putting your best foot forward.

2. Disturbances and distractions are a major problem for those who work at home. To minimize this you should organize a Home Office in some convenient place in your house and leave instructions that you should not be disturbed during your working hours.

Create a pleasant environment that will inspire and motivate you to work at home in your home office.

3. One of the major problems faced by home based business entrepreneurs when they work at home is the tendency to get disorganized. Distractions by the kids, family members, visitors, telephone calls are but just a few of the problems. This situation can be avoided by having a planned work schedule for your day to day work. Have a master list prepared every day and prioritize your work. You can make changes as and when the need arises. Set your hours of work say from morning 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM and stick to it as far as possible.

4. The idea of starting a home business is often kindled by the desire to spend more time with the family. Rather than allowing the family members to distract you from your work, it will be wise for you to allocate some time specially to attend to family matters on a planned basis. You should judiciously plan your work in such a manner that you will spend some time with the family everyday so that your spouse and kids reap the benefits of your presence at home. So it is up to you to ensure that this happens, for happiness at home will definitely reflect in the progress you make in your business and boost your morale.

5. To many home based business entrepreneurs the biggest distracters are friends and neighbors rather than the spouse and the kids. Once they know that you are at home, the tendency for them to chat or ring you up will be a distraction that you will find difficult to avoid. You have to be firm and request them not to contact you during your working hours.

6. TV programs and those specially targeted for stay at home moms are a great distraction. Keep away from them during your working hours if success is your goal.

Distractions are always a problem; sometimes there are exceptions too, especially when you are exhausted and tired the little toddler straying into your home office is certainly welcome. This can cool your nerves, reduce your stress and act as a soothing balm.

Avoid being distracted by your kids, spouse, friends and neighbors but endeavor to keep them happy while you work at home. Maintaining a balance is very important while you remain focused on achieving success in your home based business.
